HUDSON’S BAY CO.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Founded in 1670, The Bay is one of Canada’s oldest and most recognizable retailers. While its legacy is an asset, the brand is often perceived by younger audiences as traditional rather than culturally relevant. This speculative campaign explores how contemporary art direction could reposition The Bay as a destination for fashion-forward, multi-brand discovery.
Instead of relying on conventional back-to-school advertising, the campaign treats the season as a moment of identity and self-expression. Familiar environments—a playground, running track, skate park, and schoolyard—are photographed through an editorial lens, using strong geometry, unexpected perspectives, and cinematic styling to create images that feel more like fashion magazines than retail promotions.
Designed as an integrated, flexible, bilingual system spanning still photography, motion, and out-of-home applications, the project demonstrates how a 350-year-old institution can honor its heritage while speaking to a new generation with confidence and cultural relevance.
